Corridor of Hope Trust Slams Justice Department Over ‘Rot’ in Pietermaritzburg Master’s Office
The Corridor of Hope Community Trust has launched a scathing public attack on the Department of Justice, accusing it of incompetence and failing to address systemic issues within the Master of the High Court in Pietermaritzburg.
In a sharply worded open letter addressed directly to the Minister of Justice, Trust Chairperson and former Ukhozi FM traffic presenter Ayanda Msweli expressed deep disappointment over the government’s failure to resolve a seemingly straightforward matter.
According to Msweli, the Trust actively engaged with the Minister’s office between June 2 and August 21, 2026, but the communication resulted in nothing more than empty, “back-and-forth email” correspondences with no tangible relief.
The core of the Trust’s grievance centers on the leadership of the Pietermaritzburg Master of the High Court.
Msweli alleged that the head of that office “runs that office like her own living room, with no regard for the law or any care for professionalism,” while accusing the broader Department of Justice of turning a blind eye to internal corruption and mismanagement.
The letter raises broader concerns about national security and institutional capability, questioning how citizens can trust the Department of Justice with complex national matters if it remains paralyzed by basic disputes.
While acknowledging that the ongoing Madlanga Commission is actively working to restore public faith in the nation’s legal structures, Msweli warned that the Minister’s current inaction is dragging the department’s reputation “back into the dirt.”
The Trust concluded its appeal with an urgent plea for the Minister to break the deadlock and directly intervene, stating that they have officially exhausted all other administrative avenues.
