Chiefs keep unbeaten run despite Siwelele scare
Kaizer Chiefs survived a late scare to beat Siwelele 3-2 in a chaotic, entertaining Sunday evening clash after being forced to Dobsonville by venue issues at FNB Stadium.
Fernando da Cruz made two changes from the 2-2 draw with Richards Bay, bringing in Dillan Solomons and Wandile Duba.
Siwelele, still searching for a first win of the season, started Xulu in goal with Jeza and Pule in attack.
Chiefs controlled the first half. Inácio Miguel was booked early. Mfundo Vilakazi had already created a chance for Duba before beating the offside trap in the 30th minute, running onto a ball on the right and curling past the advancing Samkelo Xulu for 1-0.
This was his first league goal of the campaign. Duba had a finish ruled out for offside shortly after. Siwelele threatened late in the half from a Blessing Thulo set-piece, but Brandon Petersen held firm. Half-time: 1-0.
The second half exploded. Duba made it 2-0 in the 65th minute, finishing after a pass from Mduduzi Shabalala. Three minutes later Aphiwe Baliti pulled one back for Siwelele.
Chiefs restored a two-goal cushion in the 77th minute when Xulu put through his own net after an excellent curled free kick by Faiz Abrahams.
Siwelele kept coming and scored again in the 92nd minute to make it 3-2, setting up a tense finish in added time.
Chiefs had more of the ball (around 55%) and created the clearer chances. The result ends a pair of draws and gives Amakhosi three points at home against a side that beat them 2-0 in Bloemfontein last season. Siwelele remain winless but showed fight after going two down.
