Siyanda Ndlovu admits mixed emotions after helping Sundowns beat former club
Siyanda “Skhwishi” Ndlovu has opened up about the emotional pain of scoring against his former club after playing a key role in Mamelodi Sundowns’ 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership on Sunday.
Ndlovu, who joined Sundowns from Arrows at the start of the season, scored the opening goal before also playing a role in the build-up to the second as the Brazilians secured all three points.
Despite celebrating the important victory, Siyanda Ndlovu admitted that finding the back of the net against the club where he developed was difficult.
“I’m happy that we won today. But scoring against my former team… it hurts a little,” Ndlovu admitted after the match.
“It hurts because it is the team I grew up at, the team I played for before moving to Sundowns.
“But work is work. I’m happy with today’s game. We worked hard with the guys. It was not easy at all, but we managed to get the three points in the end.”
The young attacker also credited Sundowns’ strong team spirit and communication for helping them survive a difficult period late in the match.
Siyanda Ndlovu said the players continually encouraged one another as they looked to protect their advantage and see out the result.
“I think what helped us was the understanding and teamwork within the team,” he added.
“The way we were working… we kept reminding each other that there was not much time left and that we should keep pushing.
“I think that is what helped us most to get the result today.”
Ndlovu’s contribution against his former club underlines his growing importance to Sundowns as they continue their Betway Premiership campaign.
The Brazilians have moved to the top of the standings after Sunday’s victory.
