ACCUSED SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS’ DIRECT IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDER OF A TRAFFIC WARDEN
A man from Fochville has been sentenced to 15-years imprisonment after he was found responsible for the murder of a traffic warden.
Johannes Fourie, also known as “Buda”, was sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment for murder and was further declared unfit to possess a firearm by the court on 27 August 2026.
The court heard that on 02 November 2024, Piter Eddy, a traffic warden, was fatally stabbed once in the chest by Fourie at a tavern in Fochville following an argument and fled the scene.
Earlier that day, Eddy had searched Fourie while performing his official duties.
Police launched an investigation and subsequently traced and arrested Fourie at his residence.
The murder weapon was also recovered during the arrest.
The case was thereafter transferred to the Provincial Investigation Unit for further investigation, which ultimately contributed to securing the conviction.
The investigating team is commended for their diligent work in ensuring that the accused face the full might of the law.
