Instead, SAFA president Danny Jordaan found himself on the back foot Tuesday morning.
A reporter asked the question many football followers have been whispering about.
How much is Pitso Mosimane actually being paid to coach Bafana Bafana?
Mosimane was officially unveiled as the new national team coach this week.
However, his appointment has been surrounded by controversy over his salary.
Reports have claimed there is a significant gap between Mosimane’s package and Hugo Broos’ previous salary. Rather than address the issue, Jordaan shut the question down.
“No, we are not answering questions about the salary of the coach,” he snapped.
“You can ask the coach if he wants to disclose his salary, but that is his business. Would you disclose your salary? That is not a question.”
The awkward exchange quickly shifted attention towards Mosimane and his plans for Bafana Bafana.
Known as “Jingles”, Mosimane appears more focused on the job than the controversy surrounding his salary.
The 62-year-old is taking charge of Bafana Bafana for a second time. His first spell as national team coach ran from 2010 until 2012.
