Ramathuba reshuffles Limpopo cabinet, brings new leadership into executive
POLOKWANE – Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has reconstituted her Provincial Executive Council in the first major shake-up of the executive since the beginning of the seventh administration in July 2024, promising a more agile and results-driven government focused on improving service delivery and accelerating economic development.
The changes, announced on Wednesday (2 September 2026), follow what the Premier described as a rigorous assessment of the performance of the Executive Council, informed by the experiences and concerns of Limpopo residents.
Ramathuba said the reshuffle was not undertaken lightly, but was necessary to ensure that her administration remains responsive to the province’s challenges and capable of delivering on its developmental mandate.
She acknowledged the contribution of members of the previous executive, saying they had worked to advance the objectives of the administration, but stressed that government must continuously assess its performance.
“There is always room for improvement and to better serve our people, we must ensure our team is agile, focused and ready to meet the evolving demands of our province,” Ramathuba said.
The Premier’s move comes against the backdrop of persistent socioeconomic challenges facing Limpopo, including high unemployment, poverty and difficulties experienced by communities in accessing basic services.
She challenged the newly appointed MECs to regard these challenges as urgent mandates rather than insurmountable obstacles.
“The people of Limpopo are watching and they are waiting for results,” Ramathuba said
Calling on the new executive to prioritise ordinary residents in villages, townships and towns.
She said the success of the seventh administration would ultimately be judged by its ability to improve the lives of residents and promote inclusive economic growth.
The new Executive Council was sworn into office on Wednesday morning.

Social Development: Florence Radzilani
Transport and Community Safety: Nakedi Kekana
Economic Development, Environment and Tourism: Dr Tshitereke Matibe
Finance: Kgabo Mahoai
Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure: Ernest Rachoene
Sport, Arts and Culture: Constance Kupa-Mabuza
Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs: Pule Shayi
Health: Eddie Maila
The reshuffle places particular emphasis on portfolios central to the province’s development agenda, including infrastructure, health, education, economic development, transport and rural development.
Ramathuba has expressed confidence that the refreshed team will stabilise service provision while creating the conditions for sustainable economic growth.
LEGISLATURE ALSO WELCOMES NEW MEMBERS
The changes to the executive coincided with developments in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature, where Speaker Dr Makoma Makhurupetje presided over the swearing-in of new members.
Mopani District former executive mayor Pule Shayi and Fetakgomo Tubatse municipality Eddie Maila, who are also provincial leaders of the African National Congress _were sworn in as Members of the Provincial Legislature, alongside Deputy Speaker Tebogo Mamorobela and Deputy Chairperson of Chairs Peter Hasani Ngobeni.
Their formal assumption of office marks the beginning of their legislative responsibilities at a time when the provincial government is seeking to sharpen its focus on accountability, service delivery and economic development.
The legislature welcomed the new members and wished them well as they take up their responsibilities in service to the people of Limpopo.
