Orlando Pirates Thrash Kruger United 4-0 to Stay Unbeaten

Pirates cruise past Kruger to maintain perfect start

Orlando Pirates strengthened their grip on the early Betway Premiership title race with a ruthless 4-0 victory over Kruger United at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Buccaneers arrived in Mbombela as league leaders, carrying the confidence of an unbeaten start to the campaign. They had collected 10 points from their opening four matches, while newly promoted Kruger United were still waiting for their first victory in the top flight.

Pirates wasted little time demonstrating the gulf between the two sides.

Pirates Strike Early in Mbombela

The Soweto giants were awarded a penalty just four minutes into the contest, and Gamphani Lungu made no mistake from the spot to give Pirates an early advantage.

The opening goal settled Pirates and allowed Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side to dictate the tempo. Kruger struggled to find a response as the visitors continued to control possession and threaten in the final third.

Pirates entered the match in strong form after beating Sekhukhune United 2-0 in their previous Betway Premiership fixture. They then completed a 4-0 aggregate victory over the same opponents in the MTN8 semi-finals.

That momentum was evident again against Kruger.

Radiopan Doubles the Advantage

Pirates continued to press after the interval and were rewarded when Boitumelo Radiopan extended their lead early in the second half.

Radiopan was subsequently withdrawn, with Yanela Mbuthuma introduced as his replacement.

The change proved decisive.

Mbuthuma made an immediate impact, scoring twice to turn an already comfortable Pirates advantage into a comprehensive 4-0 victory.

The result underlined the depth and attacking threat available to Ouaddou as Pirates continued their impressive start to the domestic campaign.

Pirates Remain Unbeaten

The victory means Pirates remain unbeaten in the Betway Premiership and continue to set the pace at the top of the standings.

The Buccaneers have now built further momentum ahead of the next phase of their campaign, with their early-season form providing a strong platform for a challenging domestic and continental schedule.

For Kruger United, however, the night offered another painful reminder of the demands of top-flight football.

The newly promoted side had collected just one point from their first four matches before facing Pirates. Their campaign had already included defeats against Kaizer Chiefs, Milford FC and Durban City, as well as a draw with Marumo Gallants.

The loss to Pirates leaves Kruger still searching for their first league win of the season.

Different Challenges Await

Pirates will now shift their attention to their CAF Champions League qualifying campaign as they look to carry their domestic momentum onto the continental stage.

Kruger, meanwhile, must regroup quickly. With their first top-flight victory still proving elusive, the pressure will increase as they attempt to turn their promising promotion into a successful Premiership campaign.

For now, Pirates remain firmly in control at the summit, with another emphatic performance reinforcing their status as one of the early teams to beat in the Betway Premiership.
