Mosimane responds to Broos over agent and club owner claims
New Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has responded to Hugo Broos’ recent comments about agents and club owners allegedly influencing player selection.
Mosimane was officially unveiled as the new Bafana head coach on Tuesday morning. The announcement was made during a press briefing at SAFA House.
Broos had warned that Bafana could “go five years back in time” following his departure.
The Belgian also claimed that club owners and player agents had previously tried to influence coaches over player selection. Broos said he had removed those individuals when they attempted to interfere.
Mosimane, however, refused to engage in a public disagreement with his predecessor. Instead, he chose to focus on his new responsibilities as Bafana coach.
“I will answer the questions related to my job, which is coaching,” Mosimane said.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach also had positive words for Broos.
Mosimane said he had recognised and praised Broos’ work long before his return to the national team.
“I think way before I have recognised and praised Hugo Broos for what he’s done,” he said.
“I appreciate the work Broos has done and everyone else has done before my return to Bafana Bafana.”
Mosimane believes Broos has left the national team in a strong position.
“He has laid very good foundations for us. He has done exceptionally well,” Mosimane said.
He stressed that his praise for Broos was not simply because he had taken over the job.
“I’m not saying it today only, I’ve said it before. He has put a good foundation for me.”
Mosimane also acknowledged the contributions of everyone who worked with Bafana before his return.
He now faces the task of building on those foundations as he begins his second spell in charge of the national team.
