POLOKWANE — Former ANC Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe has called on ANC volunteers in Limpopo to intensify their election campaign at community level, mobilise voters in every locality and work towards securing victory for the governing party in the November 4 local government elections.

Motlanthe was addressing thousands of ANC supporters at the party’s Limpopo Provincial Manifesto Rally held at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday.

His appearance was a major feature of the provincial manifesto launch, where the ANC presented its commitments and campaign priorities ahead of the local government elections.

Motlanthe’s message placed emphasis on the importance of grassroots campaigning, with volunteers expected to become the link between the ANC and communities as the election campaign gathers momentum.

The former Deputy President, who currently chairs the ANC Electoral Committee, was welcomed to Limpopo by the party’s provincial leadership led by ANC Limpopo Chairperson Dr Phophi Ramathuba.

In welcoming Motlanthe, Ramathuba described him as a distinguished leader and veteran of the movement whose political career has been associated with organisational discipline, political education, unity and accountable leadership.

She said the ANC in Limpopo remained committed to its position as the “vanguard of society” and presented the provincial manifesto as a contract with the people.

“The manifesto we launch today is a contract,” Ramathuba said

The Provincial Chairperson highlighting the party’s commitment to creating 50 000 work and enterprise opportunities, protecting women and young people and transforming Limpopo into an economic powerhouse.

She said the ANC wanted economic activity and processing to take place closer to communities, including in rural areas, rather than having the province merely supply raw materials to economic centres elsewhere.

Ramathuba also acknowledged the need for a disciplined and united organisation, calling on ANC branches to remain the “ears and eyes” of communities while councillors must be present, accessible and accountable to residents.

The provincial chairperson said the ANC was entering the election campaign with experienced leadership, pointing to Motlanthe’s political experience and longstanding contribution to the movement.

She described him as a leader whose integrity, strategic understanding and commitment to the ANC made his presence at the Limpopo manifesto launch significant.

Motlanthe’s intervention comes as the ANC seeks to strengthen its campaign machinery ahead of the November elections, with the party facing the challenge of translating its manifesto commitments into a compelling message for communities concerned about service delivery, employment, infrastructure and local economic development.

The ANC’s national campaign has placed the 2026 manifesto at the centre of its election mobilisation, with the party urging communities to support its commitments to building better communities.

At the Limpopo rally, Motlanthe specifically focused on the role of volunteers in turning those commitments into an organised campaign on the ground.

For Limpopo, the manifesto launch represents the beginning of an intensified provincial campaign.

The ANC will now be expected to take its promises on jobs, enterprise development, municipal services and economic transformation directly to communities across the province.
