Kaizer Chiefs supporters expecting to travel to Rustenburg for the club’s upcoming Betway Premiership clash against Siwelele FC will now have to change their plans after a series of venue setbacks forced the match back to Soweto.

The fixture will now take place at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday, 6 September, with kick-off scheduled for 5.30pm.

The venue change follows a complicated search for a suitable stadium after Chiefs’ original choice, FNB Stadium, became unavailable.

FNB Stadium Ruled Out Because of Springboks Clash

Chiefs had initially planned to host the fixture at FNB Stadium, their traditional home ground.

However, the stadium is unavailable because it is scheduled to host the highly anticipated rugby clash between the Springboks and the All Blacks.

With their preferred venue off the table, the club turned its attention to Rustenburg.

Royal Bafokeng Stadium was subsequently selected as the alternative venue, but that plan also fell through after the stadium became unavailable.

Chiefs were then forced into a wider search for another home ground.

Chiefs’ Other Venue Options Also Fell Through

According to the club, several alternatives were considered before Dobsonville Stadium was confirmed.

One of those options was Moses Mabhida Stadium, with Chiefs attempting to secure the Durban venue for 2 September.

However, the plan was rejected after the Premier Soccer League inspected the pitch and determined that it was unsuitable for the fixture.

The club then approached New Peter Mokaba Stadium, but that option was also rejected.

With alternatives rapidly disappearing, Chiefs eventually turned to Dobsonville Stadium.

“In partnership with Stadium Management South Africa (SMSA), we applied for Dobsonville Stadium as the last option,” the club said.

SMSA confirmed Sunday as the available alternative because another match was already scheduled at the stadium.

Chiefs Apologise to Supporters

The late change is likely to affect supporters who had already made travel arrangements for Rustenburg.

Chiefs acknowledged the inconvenience and apologised to supporters of both clubs who had planned their journeys around the original venue.

“We therefore wish to sincerely apologise to the supporters of both teams who had already made arrangements to travel to Rustenburg,” the club said.

The decision means the fixture will now return to Soweto, giving Chiefs supporters a more familiar setting for the encounter.

Ticket Prices and Where to Buy

Tickets for the match will cost R80.

Supporters can purchase tickets through Computicket, as well as at participating Shoprite and Checkers stores.

The venue change brings an end to a turbulent process that saw Chiefs move from FNB Stadium to Rustenburg before ultimately returning to Soweto.

For supporters, the immediate priority is now adjusting travel plans and making sure they are at Dobsonville Stadium when Chiefs and Siwelele meet on Sunday, 6 September.
