Community and media partnerships lead to swift arrest of Moeka Vuma triple murder suspect
The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has lauded the community, media houses, and social media users for their pivotal role in the rapid arrest of a 41-year-old triple murder suspect.
James Mohajane was apprehended this morning following an intensive manhunt.
He is the prime suspect in the brutal weekend killings of his girlfriend, Moipone Lefoka, her sister, Esther Lefoka, and Esther’s boyfriend, Tshepo Molekwa.
The three victims were allegedly hacked to death with a spade at a residence in Moeka Vuma, near Makapanstad in the North West province.
The breakthrough came less than 12 hours after SAPS circulated Mohajane’s photograph and issued a public alert.
Vigilant members of the Moeka Vuma community mobilized and successfully handed the suspect over to the police at approximately 09:30 this morning.
Dimpane commended the community for their bravery and cooperation, emphasizing that public participation is vital in combating violent crime.
“Once again, our communities have demonstrated that they are an important partner in the fight against crime. The swift response by the community of Moeka Vuma, together with the assistance of the media and social media users who shared the suspect’s photograph, has contributed significantly to bringing this wanted suspect into police custody,” Dimpane said.
This breakthrough follows a similar incident last week in Klerksdorp, where community members assisted law enforcement in tracking down a suspect who had fled after allegedly killing his girlfriend in Soweto.
The Acting National Commissioner concluded by praising the tireless efforts of the investigative teams and police officers involved in ensuring that violent offenders face the full might of the law.
