McKenzie wants Mosimane paid what Broos earned
Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie has hit out at SAFA over the delay in finalising Pitso Mosimane’s return as Bafana Bafana coach.
McKenzie believes Mosimane should receive the same level of remuneration previously enjoyed by Hugo Broos. “Pitso must be paid what Hugo Broos was getting,” McKenzie said.
He questioned why Mosimane should have to justify his salary expectations when SAFA had previously paid another coach substantially more for the same position.
“Pitso has won cups. He has built a name for himself and he is our product,” he added. The issue has come under greater scrutiny after McKenzie revealed that Broos earned R16.8 million annually, equivalent to about R1.4 million per month, excluding benefits such as accommodation, transport and a driver.
SAFA initially offered Mosimane R5 million per year before reportedly increasing the package to R10 million. His appointment remains delayed by unresolved contractual matters.
Mosimane’s return comes as Bafana prepare for their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
