Orange Farm SAPS constable appears in court on assault, rape and ammunition charges
A 29-year-old police constable based at Orange Farm SAPS has appeared in court facing charges of assault, rape under the Domestic Violence Act, and possession of unlicensed ammunition.
Constable Delano Thompson, who is attached to the Visible Policing unit (Community Service Centre) in the Sedibeng District, was arrested last Thursday evening. During the arrest, officers found him in possession of one R1 rifle round, five R5 rifle rounds, and three pistol hollow-point rounds of live ammunition.
He was detained at Ennerdale SAPS over the weekend. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is handling the matter.
The case highlights ongoing scrutiny of police conduct, particularly in cases involving gender-based violence and the illegal possession of ammunition by officers. Further details on the court proceedings and the investigation have not yet been released.
