Four arrested for Hibberdene business robbery
Four suspects who allegedly stormed into a store and stole cellphones at a shopping centre in Hibberdene on Wednesday, were arrested by police officers who are members of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes unit on Friday.
According to KZN SAPS Spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, at least eight suspects, whose faces were concealed with balaclavas and face masks, accosted employees of the shop and stole several cellphones before fleeing from the scene in four vehicles.
“The matter was referred to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes unit and within 72 hours, four suspects were arrested at Emalangeni area in Umzinto.”
“Four vehicles that were allegedly used in the commission of the crime were also found and seized. The suspects will appear in the Umzumbe Magistrate’s Court on Monday. A search is still ongoing for the outstanding suspects who are believed to be in possession of the stolen cellphones. Community members are urged not to buy suspected stolen cellphones so that they do not become accomplices to the crime,” he said.
