Learners lost lives in a head on collision involving a bus and taxi in Mashashane
A serious motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles transporting learners has been reported on the road between Jupiter and Diana in the Mashashane area of Limpopo on Thursday.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety confirmed that a Toyota Quantum and a bus, both carrying learners, were involved in the collision.
Emergency services, including Polokwane Municipality’s Fire and Rescue Services, were immediately dispatched to the scene, where rescue operations are currently underway.
The department said it is still gathering information about the circumstances surrounding the crash and the extent of injuries sustained.
“Full details of the accident will be released once the next of kin and all relevant stakeholders have been informed,” the department said.
Motorists have been urged to exercise extreme caution in the area and, where possible, avoid the accident scene to allow emergency personnel unhindered access.
The department said its thoughts are with the affected learners, their families and school communities.
