Former Eskom contractor Michael Lomas handed suspended sentence over Kusile bribes
Former Eskom contractor Michael Lomas has been handed a 15-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to corruption, fraud and theft linked to the Kusile Power Station project.
The Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg ratified a plea and sentence agreement after Lomas admitted to paying more than R2.6 million in bribes to former Eskom managers France Hlakudi and Abram Masango to secure work for Tubular Construction Projects.
The 79-year-old British businessman, extradited from the UK in 2024, received a wholly suspended sentence after the court considered his age, poor health, remorse, time already served and his agreement to testify against his co-accused.
