AmaZulu FC sent a powerful message ahead of the new Betway Premiership season by lifting the KZN Premier’s Cup with a commanding 2-0 victory over Milford FC at Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday.

Arthur Zwane’s side produced another polished pre-season display to secure the provincial title, extending an impressive run of form that will give supporters plenty of reason for optimism before the 2026/27 campaign begins.

Milford FC entered the final full of confidence after producing two of the tournament’s biggest surprises by eliminating both Durban City and Richards Bay FC. However, the underdogs found themselves up against a clinical AmaZulu side that seized control early and never looked back.

Usuthu made the breakthrough in the 11th minute when defender Sandile Mthethwa rose highest to head home from an inviting cross delivered by debutant Kgomotjo Lekoloane. The early goal settled AmaZulu and immediately shifted the momentum in their favour.

Lekoloane’s memorable debut became even more special just before the interval. The newcomer calmly finished from close range in the 42nd minute to double AmaZulu’s lead, capping an outstanding first appearance in club colours and putting the trophy firmly within reach.

AmaZulu continued to threaten after the break and were handed a golden opportunity to extend their advantage in the 64th minute when Tebogo Mashigo won a penalty. The forward, however, could not convert from the spot, leaving the score at 2-0.

The missed penalty did little to change the outcome. AmaZulu remained composed in possession, controlled the tempo and comfortably saw out the closing stages to seal a deserved victory.

For Zwane and his squad, the triumph represents more than just silverware. It reflects growing confidence, encouraging performances and a squad beginning to find rhythm at exactly the right time before the start of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.

While Milford FC fell short in the final, their impressive journey to the showpiece, which included victories over Durban City and Richards Bay FC, marked them as a side capable of causing problems for more established opponents.

AmaZulu, though, finished the job with authority. With the KZN Premier’s Cup now in their hands, Usuthu head into the new season carrying momentum, belief and the confidence that comes from ending pre-season as KwaZulu-Natal’s champions.
