Kaizer Chiefs Win 2026 Toyota Cup as Mfundo Vilakazi Fires Amakhosi to Victory Over Scottland FC
Kaizer Chiefs finally ended their recent Toyota Cup frustration after Mfundo Vilakazi’s clinical first half strike secured a hard fought 1-0 victory over Scottland FC at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday.
The narrow win was enough to hand Amakhosi the 2026 Toyota Cup and deliver new head coach Fernando Da Cruz his first piece of silverware since taking charge. It also marked a significant moment for the Soweto giants, who bounced back after losing the previous two editions of the competition to Young Africans in 2024 and Asante Kotoko in 2025.
There was a sense of anticipation before kick off as Da Cruz entrusted several young players with starting roles and handed defender Adolf Mtasingwa his debut despite the new signing missing the club’s recent European tour.
Scottland FC coach Norman Mapeza also made bold selection decisions, leaving experienced former Chiefs stars Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona on the bench from the start. Walter Musona was also named among the substitutes as the Zimbabwean side looked to frustrate the hosts.
Chiefs began the match with confidence and purpose. Bradley Cross and Thabiso Monyane combined well down the flank in the opening exchanges, forcing Scottland to defend deep as Amakhosi searched for an early breakthrough.

After the interval, Da Cruz refreshed his attack by introducing Wandile Duba and Etiosa Ighodaro, while Mapeza responded with the arrival of Billiat and brothers Knowledge and Walter Musona in an effort to inspire a comeback.
Despite the changes, Chiefs remained the more dangerous side.
Chislett nearly found the net after another promising move involving Monyane, while Ighodaro missed a golden opportunity when he headed wide after an inviting cross from Reeve Frosler.
Duba also failed to convert a late chance that could have sealed the result more comfortably, but Chiefs’ inability to add a second goal ultimately did not prove costly.
Vilakazi’s early finish stood as the decisive moment of the afternoon, ensuring Amakhosi reclaimed the Toyota Cup and providing Da Cruz with an ideal start to his reign.
For Kaizer Chiefs, the victory represents more than another pre season trophy. It offers renewed optimism, rewards the club’s faith in emerging talent and gives supporters fresh belief that a new chapter under Da Cruz could be taking shape.
After back to back disappointments in the Toyota Cup, Amakhosi finally have their hands on the trophy once again, with one moment of composure from Mfundo Vilakazi proving enough to restore pride and momentum ahead of the new campaign.
