Limpopo Department of Public Works to implement recommendations by the SIU towards 15 of its employees lifestyle audit
Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure has started a process of implementing the recommendations of the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) on the lifestyle audit conducted on supply chain officials, including the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
According to the department a total number of 42 officials were subjected to a lifestyle audit, and fifteen of
them were found to be high risk and medium risk respectively.
Twenty-seven were at low risk and there were no significant findings on them.
The department conducted lifestyle audit in compliance with the SCOPA resolution 9
(Lifestyle audit) wherein the committee made an observation that some officials in the supply chain management unit live life that is beyond their means.
As part of the implementation of the recommendations, employees found to be of high risk and medium risk are being transferred from the finance directorate to other units within the department.
Limpopo MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure MEC Tonny Ernest Rachoene has welcomed the report of SIU, as it assists the department to realise its effort for clean governance and accountability.
“As the Department, we accept our responsibility to implement the recommendations that arise from the SIU’s investigations.
This process is not being approached as a compliance exercise. It forms part of our broader commitment to building a department that is transparent, accountable, and responsive to the people of Limpopo.
Where the SIU has identified administrative shortcomings. We are strengthening our internal controls and governance systems.
Where disciplinary processes are warranted, they are being pursued in accordance with the applicable legislative and labour frameworks.
Matters that require the attention of law enforcement agencies will continue to be dealt with through the appropriate channels.” said MEC Ernest Rachoene.
The department will further conduct audit on officials of all other critical directorates of the institution that include Assistant Directors, Deputy Directors, Directors and Chief Directors, as it recognises that public confidence is built through consistent action.
Rachoene says the people of Limpopo expect a department that delivers roads and public infrastructure efficiently, manages public resources responsibly, and acts decisively when governance failures occur. Those expectations are legitimate, and the department remain committed to meeting them.
