Two dead in Sundumbili and foreign national assaulted in KwaDukuza as police warn against xenophobic rumours

Sundumbili police are investigating two counts of murder after two foreign nationals were found dead in the Sangweni area of Isithebe in the North of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) early on Sunday morning.

Current information indicates that the two deceased individuals were leaving a local tavern under the influence of alcohol when an argument erupted, allegedly leading to a mutual stabbing.

One victim was found directly at the scene, while community members discovered the second victim a few metres away. It is believed that the second individual also sustained multiple stab wounds.

A third person who witnessed the incident, and who is of the same nationality as the deceased, is currently being questioned by police to gather further details.

In a separate incident in KwaDukuza, police confirmed that investigations are underway regarding cases of assault and malicious damage to property.

This follows the destruction of five mud structures in Area 14, KwaDukuza, on Friday night. Reports indicate that a group of men went to the area searching for an allegedly stolen refrigerator.

When they failed to find it, they assaulted a foreign national found at the premises and destroyed five buildings.

Police have urged members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information suggesting that these two incidents are linked to ongoing narratives regarding the unlawful eviction of foreign nationals.
