Law enforcement operation targeting undocumented foreign nationals underway in Durban Point

A law enforcement operation focusing on undocumented foreign nationals is underway in the Point area of Durban on Monday.

Several streets have been closed off as police and the Durban Metro Police conduct stop-and-search operations, whilst foreign nationals suspected of being in the country illegally are being verified by immigration officials from the Department of Home Affairs.

Several businesses have been closed after those who were running them were either found to be operating without proper permits or are in the country illegally.

Arrests have also been made for possession of drugs. These are routine operations that police undertake from time to time to rid the province of KwaZulu-Natal of undocumented foreign nationals, while Metro Police enforce municipal bylaws and other statutes.

The operation is also a demonstration that police in KwaZulu-Natal are ready to create a safe and secure environment for South African citizens to exercise their democratic right of staging peaceful marches on 30 June 2026.
