Drugs Worth R3 Million Seized in Kuils River as Police Bust Suspected Drug Operation

Kuils River drugs seized

Two suspects arrested after major early morning raid uncovers mandrax, crystal meth and cash

A routine Monday morning in Kuils River was shattered before dawn when police uncovered a massive drug haul worth an estimated R3 million, leading to the arrest of two suspects and exposing what investigators believe was a significant drug distribution operation.

A 29-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man are expected to appear in the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on charges of possession and dealing in drugs following a targeted operation by the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team.

Tip-off Leads Police to Kuils River Bed and Breakfast

According to police, officers received intelligence at approximately 4:30am on Monday regarding suspected drug-related activity at a bed and breakfast in the Langverwacht area of Kuils River in the Western Cape.

Acting swiftly on the information, members of the task team proceeded to the identified property to investigate.

Upon arrival, officers located a man matching the description provided by informants, along with a woman inside one of the rooms.

Suspicious Vehicle Sparks Discovery

Parked outside the room was a white VW Polo that immediately attracted the attention of investigators.

Police reported that while inspecting the vehicle from outside, members noticed a large black bag on the back seat. The male suspect was then asked to unlock the vehicle so that officers could conduct a search.

What they allegedly discovered inside would lead to one of the area’s most significant recent drug seizures.

Mandrax and Crystal Meth Worth Millions

During the search, police found a substantial quantity of mandrax tablets. A more detailed inspection of the vehicle uncovered additional bags containing even more drugs.

In total, officers confiscated 51 bags containing mandrax tablets, as well as five kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.

The combined street value of the seized drugs is estimated at R3 million.

Investigators also recovered R17,000 in cash, which police believe may be proceeds generated through criminal activity.

All the seized items were taken into police custody and registered as evidence.

Suspects Face Drug Dealing Charges

Both suspects were arrested at the scene and charged with possession and dealing in drugs.

Their appearance in the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday is expected to mark the beginning of legal proceedings as authorities continue investigating the source and intended destination of the narcotics.

Ongoing Fight Against Drug Crime

The seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by specialised police units to disrupt drug trafficking networks operating across the Western Cape.

Law enforcement agencies have repeatedly warned that the distribution of substances such as mandrax and crystal meth continues to fuel crime, addiction and violence in communities across the province.

Police investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
