LIMPOPO’S BIGGEST TOWNSHIP RANKED THIRD IN NATIONAL CRIME OFFENCES
POLOKWANE: Limpopo Province crime statistics represent far more than numbers and percentages. It reflects the lived reality of the resilient people and the unwavering commitment of SAPS to serve under extreme challenging conditions
Provincial Commissioner Lt General Thembi Hadebe was presenting the 4th quarterly crime statistics from 2026 January _ March 2026 on Wednesday in Polokwane.
According to the statistics, Seshego township remains the most dangerous area in the province.
Capricorn District major townships such as Seshego, Mankweng, and Lebowakgomo ranked in the top 5 of the province’s highest contributing areas in robbery at residential premises and contact crimes.
However, Seshego township criminal offenses were also ranked number three in the national statistics.
Provincial Commissioner said the fight against Gender Based violence and Femicide ( GBVF)and Sexual Offences remains one of the priorities of the SAPS in all five districts.
” The only crime that continues to give us a problem for the 2025_2026 statistics is sexual offences, over all the 17 crimes that had secured a reduction,” said Provincial Commissioner Lt General Thembi Hadebe
Even though murders have reduced, Vhembe District policing areas continue to rise in sexual offences and domestic violence cases.
The District is also leading in robbery at residential premises after Seshego and Mankweng townships.
We request that the justice system send a strong message to perpetrators by handing down hefty sentences.
The Provincial Commissioner expressed her appreciation of the recent 12 life sentences on rape cases convictions by the justice department.
” We remain indebted to the men and women in blue of the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for their unwavering commitment to restore hope and justice to the survivors of traumatic crimes in our society,” said Provincial Commissioner
Policing areas with the highest counts of Car_Jacking are:
- Malamulele
- Giyani and
- Thohoyandou
The syndicate types of vehicles are station wagon ( Range Rover), Double Cap, Jeep, and Sedan/ Hatchback Coupe
The police emphasized that Cash in Transit has reduced in policing areas like Dennilton, Grobelarsdal, and Mahwelereng
While kidnapping has increased in Dennilton, Mankweng, Seshego, and Polokwane
In her conclusion, she urged the people of the province not to protect criminals and to refrain from buying stolen goods. The Lt General also assured the families of the unresolved cases not yet solved that dedicated officers will continue to investigate, even after her retirement at the end of June.
Amongst the attendees were the MEC of Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, Correctional Services and BMA managers, and Professors in the Department of Criminal Justice from the University of Venda.
