Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Ben Quarshie, has confirmed that 826 Ghanaians have registered to be evacuated from South Africa, as authorities continue processing nationals who have expressed a desire to return home.
A scheduled screening process is currently underway, with groups of Ghanaian nationals seen waiting inside a processing area as officials continue with verification and registration procedures.
According to the High Commissioner, the registration figure has now reached 826, marking a significant number of people seeking support to leave South Africa.
The screening process is expected to help officials verify identities, confirm documentation, assess individual cases, and determine the next steps for possible repatriation.
Images from the venue show several people seated in a waiting area, some with bags and personal belongings, as the administrative process continues.
The Ghanaian mission is expected to provide further details once the screening phase has been completed.
