In a concerted effort to remove illegal firearms from our streets, members of the Parkweg Tactical Response Team in Bloemfontein in the Free State arrested a 32-year-old suspect and seized a cache of weapons and ammunition in Oranjesig, Bloemfontein.
Free State Police spokesperson Lt Col Thabo Covane said it was on Monday, 11 May 2026, at approximately 11:45, operational members acted on intelligence-led information about a resident in possession of unlicensed firearms at a property on Harvey Road.

Upon arrival, Operators executed a tactical entry and conducted a thorough search of the premises. Outside, two steel cabinets were located in the yard. Inside one of the cabinets, members discovered a green bucket containing a significant quantity of mixed-caliber ammunition.
The search moved to a cottage on the property, where a Five (05) Hunting Rifles, One (01) 9mm “Bobby Brown” pistol, and Assorted rounds of ammunition were discovered.
When questioned, the owner of the house failed to produce valid licenses for some of the weapons found on the premises. As he could not account for the legality of the entire cache, the firearms and ammunition were confiscated for further ballistic testing.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody, and he faces charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The 32-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon. Investigations continue.
