The Executive Mayor of Polokwane, Makoro John Mpe, paid a heartfelt visit to Lekompo artist and producer Babethe Gashoazen at Mediclinic Polokwane on Wednesday ( 13 May 2026).
This followed his admission of a tragic motor vehicle accident that claimed the life of one member of the artist’s crew and left another injured.
The devastating incident reportedly occurred over the past weekend in the Fetakgomo Tubatse area after Babethe and his team had stopped alongside the road to allow one of the crew members to briefly step out.
It is alleged that while their vehicle was stationary, another vehicle rammed into them from behind, resulting in the fatal tragedy.
During the visit, Executive Mayor Mpe conveyed words of comfort and solidarity to the artist and his family, while extending his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.
Babethe was later discharged from the hospital following medical observation and treatment.
The Executive Mayor is also expected to visit the other affected families as part of the municipality’s continued gesture of compassion and support during this difficult period.
The City of Polokwane stands in solidarity with the local music fraternity during this sombre moment, as the province mourns a painful loss within one of its vibrant creative communities.
