Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has explained why striker Tashreeq Morris was finally given his chance during Amakhosi’s important win over Sekhukhune United.
Morris made his first Betway Premiership appearance of the season and delivered almost immediately.
The striker came off the bench late in the match and scored in the 86th minute, tapping home at the far post from a dangerous Glody Lilepo cross to put Chiefs ahead.
Mfundo Vilakazi, another substitute, then sealed the victory from the penalty spot after Lilepo was brought down inside the box.
The win was a massive one for Amakhosi as it confirmed their return to continental football. Chiefs have now qualified for the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup after reaching 51 league points for the first time in six years.
Speaking after the match, Ben Youssef said Morris’ introduction was not accidental, but part of a plan by the technical team.
“Morris is one of our players. He’s working very hard in training sessions,” said Ben Youssef.
“We were waiting until the right moment, and I think this was the right moment to introduce him to the team.”
Ben Youssef also praised the club’s backroom staff for helping prepare Morris for his opportunity.
“People are working behind us to prepare this player,” he added.
“I think I have to say thank you and congratulations to the fitness coach, Coach Dillon, and Nathi.”
Chiefs will now turn their attention to a difficult trip to KwaZulu-Natal, where they face AmaZulu FC before closing their season at home against Chippa United.
