The Bloemfontein High Court has sentenced Tumelo Mothupi (46) to 24 years imprisonment for murder of his 51-year-old ex-girlfriend.
Constable Maselela Langa Free State Police’spokesperson said it was on Saturday, 19 October 2024, at about 23:00, the accused visited his ex-girlfriend’s home. While at the house, he stabbed her with a knife and also hit her with a brick, leaving her to die.
The accused fled the scene but was spotted by a family member when the accused left the scene. The accused was nowhere to be found, and he was arrested through intelligence gathering, which was operationalised by police team together with Sergeant Tsholo, attached to Bloemspruit SAPS Detectives Branch. Tumelo got arrested and was charged with Murder on Sunday, 3 November 2024.
The accused was denied bail and remained in custody until the Bloemfontein High Court sentenced him to 24 years imprisonment on Wednesday, 28 April 2026.
The Investigating Offiicer was Detective Sergeant Sechaba Tsholo.
