A 69-year-old medical doctor has been arrested in Madadeni, near Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), following allegations that he sexually assaulted several patients.
The arrest was carried out on Tuesday by the KwaZulu-Natal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, working together with Madadeni police.
According to police reports, the doctor allegedly sexually assaulted four female patients at a hospital in Madadeni between August 2025 and April 2026.
KwaZulu-Natal SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said the case came to light after a whistleblower alerted authorities.
“The suspect allegedly touched the victims inappropriately on their breasts and private parts, and he also allegedly forced some of them to perform sexual acts on him. The victims complained to a whistleblower who anonymously alerted the police. The FCS detectives operationalised the tip-offs and, after the victims opened cases, investigations unfolded, leading to the arrest of the suspect,” said Netshiunda.
Police have indicated that more charges could be added if additional victims come forward.
“Should other victims report similar incidents and open cases, more charges will be added,” Netshiunda added.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 30 April 2026.
