The United States House of Representatives has approved a three-year extension of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), a major trade agreement that supports economic ties between the U.S. and African countries.
The bill passed comfortably, first through a voice vote and later confirmed by a roll-call vote that showed strong bipartisan support. With approval secured in the House, the legislation now heads to the Senate, where it will be considered next.
If passed by the Senate, the extension will allow African nations to continue enjoying preferential access to the U.S. market, helping to protect jobs, boost exports, and strengthen long-term trade relationships.
