Israel’s military has issued urgent warnings to residents of two villages in southern Lebanon, urging them to leave immediately ahead of strikes targeting what it says are Hezbollah military sites.
Maps shared online highlighted specific buildings in Deir Kifa and Shahour that the Israeli army claims are being used by Hezbollah. The military cautioned that anyone remaining nearby could be in danger.
According to the Israeli military, the planned strikes are a response to what it calls Hezbollah’s attempts to rebuild its operations in southern Lebanon. Residents were told to evacuate the marked areas “for their own safety.”
Earlier in the day, Israel said it had killed two Hezbollah members in separate strikes carried out the previous day. One of the men, killed in Bint Jbeil, was allegedly involved in helping the group recover from losses sustained during its recent war with Israel. The other, killed in Blida, was accused of gathering intelligence on Israeli forces.
These developments come despite the year-old ceasefire that was intended to halt the long-running clashes between Israel and Hezbollah, which began after the outbreak of the Gaza war in 2023. Israel insists its ongoing strikes are necessary to enforce the ceasefire, while Lebanon accuses Israel of repeatedly violating it.
In another strike on Tuesday, Israel targeted what it described as a Hamas training site inside the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon. According to Lebanese authorities, at least 13 people were killed. Hamas denied having any military presence there.
The situation has deepened tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border, with both sides accusing each other of undermining the fragile truce.
