A quiet afternoon in Mitchells Plain turned into a scene of chaos on Thursday as a series of gang-related shootings left five people dead and seven others injured. The attacks happened at different locations across the area, sparking fear and urgency among residents and authorities.
The first shooting took place around 12:30 p.m. at a tuck shop in Beacon Valley, where two people were killed and three others wounded. Shortly after, another tuck shop in the same area was targeted, claiming one more life and injuring three. A third shooting incident in Beacon Valley left another person injured.
The violence didn’t stop there. Two more people were shot and killed in separate incidents in Tafelsig and the Town Centre.
Authorities have confirmed that all the incidents are believed to be connected to ongoing gang violence. Murder and attempted murder cases have been opened, and the Anti-Gang Unit is actively investigating. However, no arrests have been made so far.
To contain the violence and prevent further bloodshed, police have increased their presence in the area. A manhunt has been launched to track down those responsible for the shootings.
The City has also stepped in, deploying nearly 60 officers from various units, including Metro Police Tactical Response and Traffic Services, to support the police’s efforts. Officials say they are working closely with law enforcement to help restore calm and bring those responsible to justice.
Residents remain on edge as the community grapples with the aftermath of another wave of deadly gang violence.
