Tensions within the Government of National Unity (GNU) have reached new heights as the Democratic Alliance (DA) voices serious concerns about President Cyril Ramaphosa’s leadership. The party has warned that it may consider a motion of no confidence against the president, citing growing frustration and dwindling trust in his decision-making.
The latest trigger for this fallout was the dismissal of Andrew Whitfield from his role as Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry. The DA sees the move as part of a worrying pattern that undermines collaborative governance.
Despite the internal friction, the DA has made it clear that it does not intend to exit the government. However, in a firm stance, the party has pulled out of the National Dialogue process, signaling that it is no longer willing to engage in what it sees as ineffective political discussions without tangible progress.
