The #SenzoMeyiwatrial has yet again been postponed this time to May 5, 2025 because defense lawyer Charles Mnisi still isn’t ready.
Mnisi has been given until May 5, 2025, to confirm his readiness to proceed. If he is prepared, the trial is expected to resume on May 19, 2025
Mnisi, now representing accused number one, Muzi Sibiya, took over after the death of the previous attorney, Thulani Mngomezulu, back in December 2024. And even after being given two months to prepare, he told the Pretoria High Court he needs more time.
Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng, clearly losing patience, called the continuous delays an abuse of the justice system.
He even pointed out how the public might think the court is just dragging things out for fun which, of course, isn’t the case. Still, despite his frustration, he gave what he called a final postponement, moving the trial to May 5.
This trial, which kicked off in 2022, has been nothing but delay after delay.
