SAPS and Presidential Protection Unit investigate alleged shooting involving Deputy President’s vehicle
The South African Police Service (SAPS), in collaboration with the Presidential Protection Unit, has launched a joint investigation into an alleged shooting incident involving Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s official vehicle.
According to preliminary reports, the vehicle was struck three times while the Deputy President was en route to his residence. Authorities are treating the matter with urgency and have assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of the Deputy President and to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This incident comes amid heightened concerns regarding the safety of high-ranking officials in South Africa. In a separate but related incident, members of the Deputy President’s security detail were previously involved in an altercation on the N1 highway in Johannesburg. The altercation, which involved assaulting civilians, prompted swift disciplinary action and legal proceedings against the officers involved.
The SAPS has committed to ensuring that the investigation into this shooting is carried out thoroughly and transparently. While the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, authorities have emphasized that the protection of public officials remains a top priority, and measures are being implemented to bolster security for such individuals moving forward.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses, and law enforcement agencies continue to review all available evidence.
