PARKTOWN – Gauteng Serious and Violent Crimes Investigations’s Taxi Violence Unit detectives have through a meticulous investigation secured a 40 year prison sentence against Mziwenhlanhla Maphumulo for the murder and attempted murder incident which occurred at the corner of Wanders and Wolmarans, Joubert Park – Hillbrow policing precinct in November 2019. Maphumulo shot and killed Goodman Bhekithemba Ndlovu who worked as a queue marshal, injuring another queue marshal. The detectives traced and arrested Maphumulo and brought him to court. During the arrest, he was found with the gun which he robbed from Ndlovu during the attack. On 15 April 2025, he was sentenced to a combined 40 years in prison for murder, attempted murder, robbery of a firearm as well as for possession of firearm and ammunition. The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni has commended the detectives for their efforts in fighting to deal decisively with taxi related violence. The Provincial Commissioner also noted the successes which are attributed to the detectives in their endeavour to stabilise taxi related violence in the province. The Taxi Violence Unit has from January 2025 to date, arrested 18 suspects for taxi violence related offences including murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, robbery, extortion and malicious damage to property. All the accused are still in custody facing the full might of the law.
