Media Statement GAUTENG – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) applauds the remarkable efforts of its Johannesburg Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit (SOCIU) and the National Traffic Police (NTP) in the successful execution of a warrant, culminating in the re-arrest of suspect Trevor Mbulelo Mzizi (47). This breakthrough marks another resolute step in the fight against organised crime. The suspect, who had been evading justice since 2022, was apprehended on the morning of 10 March 2025. This arrest follows a chain of events set in motion on 26 March 2021, when NTP officers identified a white Porsche Cayenne bearing false registration plates and pursued it after it failed to stop. The high-speed chase unfolded on the N12 and R28 and involved armed suspects. Backup was immediately called in, and the pursuit led to Mohlakeng, where the Porsche collided with an NTP vehicle. Four individuals fled the scene on foot, prompting an intensive search. Further investigations led officers to recover critical evidence, including an AK-47 rifle with defaced serial numbers, ammunition, and clothing linked to the suspect. Despite initial challenges with forensic reports, the case was revisited, culminating in the issuance of a warrant for Mzizi’s arrest. On 10 March 2025, DPCI teams successfully executed the arrest warrant, ensuring that justice takes its course. Mzizi, identified as a key figure in the 2021 incident, was arrested in Soweto and is now facing charges of armed robbery and fraud. The suspect will appear in the Randfontein Regional Court on 12 March 2025 for a formal bail application. The DPCI Provincial Head in Gauteng Major General Ebrahim Kadwa has commended the dedication of the officers and partners in apprehending those who threaten public safety and further stated “that this operation is a testament to the DPCI unwavering commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks and upholding the rule of law”, he said.
