NELSPRUIT – Operation Vala Umgodi, a sustained initiative to combat crime and illegal mining activities is continuing in Mpumalanga and it has proven to yield positive results thus far. The members from Combat, Proactive and South African National Defence Force (SANDF) conducted a disruptive operation at Machadodorp Slaaihoek on 07 March 2025 around 04h00am. It was during this time when the multidisciplinary team arrested the six undocumented persons (five males and one female). During the search, several equipment suspected to be used for illegal mining activities were confiscated, these items include 09 phendukas, 06 generators, 02 welding machines, 10 motors, one dampkos, a gas cylinder, an oxygen cylinder, a drill beat, 02 pick, a drilling machine, one chisel, a three-foot, a grinder, a hundred-and-forty-eight steel balls. The arrested suspects, aged between 19 and 51 are expected to appear at the Belfast Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 10 March 2025. Ends
