POLOKWANE – The SAPS Limpopo Vala Umgodi Tactical Joint Operational Centre (TACJOC), in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies, on Friday 10 January 2025 intervened in the ongoing dispute between Mapochs Mining Company and the local community in Roossenekaal, Sekhukhune District. The dispute had escalated, with allegations of disruptions to mining sites, leading to the arrests of a local councillor and seven other individuals for alleged extortion. The TACJOC team, dispatched to the area in the early hours, was met with protests as community members gathered and blocked roads in response to the arrests. The situation was becoming tense, and protesters planned further action. However, through swift intervention, the situation was successfully quelled without further incidents. The Sekhukhune District Illegal Mining Task Team, along with SAPS Roossenekraal and Public Order Policing (POPs), have been assigned to continue monitoring the area to prevent further unrest. After stabilizing the situation, TACJOC commanders met with mining managers to discuss the ongoing tensions. The mining managers were assured that police would continue to closely monitor the situation and maintain a visible presence. The TACJOC Overall Commander Colonel David Malisa alongside Operational Commander Colonel Choene Magwai emphasized that lawlessness will not be tolerated and that anyone found undermining the authority of the state would be brought to book. The police remain committed to maintaining peace and upholding the rule of law in the area, ensuring that operations continue without disruptions. Ends
