TUMAHOLE – A victim of Gender Base Violence finally got justice when the man who raped and assaulted her received a hefty sentence in the Parys Regional Court today. The accused, Jacky Khoabe (28), was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment for rape and another five years for the assault of the 23-year-old victim. This follows the incident that happened on 4 September 2023. It was testified during trial that on the said day, at about 23:00, the victim arrived home at a backroom at her boyfriend’s parental home, where she was staying with him and their child. On arrival, he ordered her to take off her clothes, accusing her of sleeping around. He said he wanted to check if she did not sleep with his brother. She obeyed because she was already assaulted. The victim further testified that she had a protection order against the accused, Jacky. After checking whatever he wanted to check, he raped her while continuing to assault her. She said she screamed, asking for help. The mother of the suspect called the police. Jacky was arrested immediately. The case was investigated by Sergeant Chris Fongoqa from the Tumahole Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) who left no stone unturned during his investigation to ensure that Jacky Khoabe is sentenced before the end of women’s month.
