Grade 10 Learner Allegedly Threatens To Stab Female Teacher With Knife At Durban School

A 15-year-old Grade 10 learner allegedly threatened to stab a female teacher with a knife at a school in Foresthaven, Phoenix, north of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) officers responded to the school at approximately 08:35 on Monday, 2 November 2026, following reports of the incident.

According to information provided to officers, the learner allegedly became aggressive after the teacher questioned his presence and behaviour in the school office. He reportedly used vulgar language and insisted that he was unwell and wanted to write his examination in the office instead of the examination room.

The learner was allegedly in possession of a black knife when he made the threat.

School examination procedures prevented the learner from being removed immediately while he was writing his exam. Reaction Officers assessed the situation while arrangements for further intervention were being made.

The incident comes amid ongoing concerns about weapons and violence in schools in the Phoenix, Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu (PINK) areas, where anti-crime searches have uncovered knives and other dangerous items in learners’ schoolbags.

No further details regarding possible disciplinary action or police intervention have been confirmed.
