Culture Motion and Pro Tee Turn Viral Gwijo Sensation into a Global Phenomenon with ‘Ingoma Ezimnandi (iGwijo)’ After 200 Million TikTok Plays
Long before fame came knocking, Culture Motion and Pro Tee had already captured the attention of thousands of people through a sound that travelled far beyond South Africa’s borders.
From TikTok timelines in France to audiences across the world, their viral gwijo sensation has been winning hearts, proving that music rooted in South African culture can connect with people regardless of language or geography.
The massive momentum culminates today, 16 October 2026, with the long-awaited official release of ‘Ingoma Ezimnandi (iGwijo)’, dropped under their new home, Asanda Empires.
The track has become a bona fide social media phenomenon, with its sound accumulating more than 200 million views on TikTok.
This unexpected, organic international reach has brought renewed global attention to gwijo—the powerful communal singing tradition deeply embedded in South African sporting culture, where fans unite in rhythm, pride, and shared identity.
Starting as an independent three-member group before expanding into a formidable collective of 13 vocalists from various parts of the Eastern Cape, Culture Motion built a global audience entirely through the raw, organic power of digital discovery.
Performed in isiXhosa, Ingoma Ezimnandi (iGwijo) carries a heartfelt message framed as a plea to God to protect one’s mother and bless her with beautiful songs.
The track’s references to legendary local figures like Jambase and iFani seamlessly tie the lyrics to South Africa’s rich musical landscape.
“Culture Motion is more than a music group—we are a reflection of our culture, our upbringing, and the communities that shaped us,” the group shares.
“Through AmaQubulo, we want to preserve our roots while introducing our sound to a new generation. Seeing people connect with our music, especially through Uzumgcine Umama, has shown us that our culture has a place on bigger stages.”
Clocking in at four minutes and 19 seconds, Ingoma Ezimnandi (iGwijo) is an authentic anthem of the gwijo genre.
The track was recorded at the state-of-the-art Asanda Empires Studios, produced and engineered by Thabiso Nkosi, with Avile Mfaxa contributing as assistant producer and engineer. It is published by Asanda Empires Publishing.
Asanda Empires talent manager, Naledi Zibi, expresses immense excitement about the group’s trajectory: “Culture Motion’s sound is a powerful expression of our culture and identity.
We look forward to supporting the group as they grow their audience, develop their music, and take AmaQubulo to bigger stages.”
For Culture Motion, this official launch marks the beginning of a lasting musical footprint. “Signing with Asanda Empires marks an exciting new chapter for us,” the group says.
“We started independently, pushing our music and believing in what we could build together. Now, we want to take that same passion to the next level… No matter how far we go, we want our music to remain true to who we are.”
