Producer And DJ Airburn Sounds Captures The Soul, Energy, And Rhythm Of The Historic Township In New single titled “SOWETO”
Producer and DJ Airburn Sounds is bringing the unmistakable energy of one of South Africa’s most culturally significant townships straight to the dancefloor.
His brand-new single, “SOWETO”, is out today, 9 October 2026, released via Airburn360.
The track is a collaborative powerhouse featuring CPT Switch, Nation 365, Predope The Vocalist, and Tshepo Keyz, who also lends his signature touch with added keyboard arrangements.
For Airburn Sounds, the new single is less about trying to define the sprawling township and more about capturing its living, breathing feeling.
Historically standing for the South Western Townships, Soweto has evolved from its complex apartheid-era history into a massive cultural and entertainment hub.
Today, it is widely celebrated for its food, entrepreneurship, street style, sports, and tourism. South African Tourism describes the area as a vibrant and energetic centre of South African culture—an exact spirit that this track bottles up.
“‘Soweto’ is a celebration of the energy, personality, and spirit that makes the township so special,” says Airburn Sounds.
“I wanted to create something that feels fun and effortless—a song you can dance to, enjoy with your friends and family, and hear something familiar in, regardless of your age. We brought together Amapiano, a touch of disco, and a mellow groove, and the different artists added their own flavour to the record.”
Rather than leaning into aggressive, club-heavy beats, “SOWETO” introduces a deliberate lightness.
The production blends the infectious, modern pulse of Amapiano with subtle disco influences, mellow textures, and an easy-going groove.
The result is a musical picture of Soweto’s lively streets: weekend movement, township fashion, music echoing from different corners, and communities connecting.
While firmly rooted in the current Amapiano era, the track intentionally avoids being limited to just one demographic: For younger listeners and For older listeners: The disco undertones and relaxed, nostalgia-infused rhythm bring an instant sense of familiarity.
By stepping away from a singular dominant sound, Airburn Sounds, CPT Switch, Nation 365, Predope The Vocalist, and Tshepo Keyz have created something inherently communal.
Much like the historic township that inspired it, “SOWETO” is colourful, relaxed, rhythmic, and always moving.
