Ouaddou names Pirates and Sundowns as PSL’s strongest teams
Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has sparked debate ahead of Saturday’s MTN8 final after naming the Buccaneers and Mamelodi Sundowns as the two strongest teams in South African football.
Pirates will face Sundowns at Moses Mabhida Stadium in what promises to be a blockbuster clash between two of the country’s biggest clubs.
While acknowledging Kaizer Chiefs as another giant of South African football, Ouaddou believes Pirates and Sundowns currently stand above the rest.
“Hopefully we’ll have a good game from two strong teams — let’s say the two best teams in the country. You can add Kaizer Chiefs as well, but these are the two strongest teams, two champion teams,” said Ouaddou.
The Pirates coach knows the final is about more than just lifting the trophy. He wants his team to make a statement and show the best version of the Buccaneers on one of South African football’s biggest stages.
“I think it will be important for us to give a good image, to present a good face of Pirates. For me, the match will be very important for the two teams,” added Ouaddou.
Ouaddou described the encounter as a meeting between two champions and a major event for South African football.
Pirates will be chasing another MTN8 triumph, while Sundowns will be determined to underline their dominance.
With two heavyweight teams going head-to-head, Ouaddou’s comments have added even more spice to an already highly anticipated final.
