Former ANC Moses Mabhida Regional Secretary Samora Ndlovu Survives Pietermaritzburg Shooting
Former African National Congress (ANC) Regional Secretary for the Moses Mabhida Region, Samora “Siminenkosi” Ndlovu, has survived a shooting incident in Thornville, Pietermaritzburg.
According to initial reports, Ndlovu was targeted by unidentified attackers in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands area. Despite sustaining gunshot wounds during the attack, he managed to survive the assassination attempt. He was rushed to a nearby medical facility, where he is currently hospitalized and receiving urgent medical treatment.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) and local authorities have not yet established a motive for the violent attack.
Political tensions and targeted shootings have historically plagued the KwaZulu-Natal region, making security a high priority for local leaders.
Law enforcement agencies are expected to launch a full investigation into the incident to trace the perpetrators.
KZN SAPS Spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said Police in KwaZulu-Natal have registered a case of attempted murder for investigation following an incident in which a man, whose age is yet to be determined, was allegedly shot and wounded by unknown suspects along the R56 Richmond Road in the Umgungundlovu District on Tuesday night, 6 October 2026.
“Police were alerted about the shooting and when they arrived at the scene, a bullet riddled vehicle was found and the victim had been transported to a medical facility in a private vehicle,” he said.
The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage and a search for the suspects is already underway.
