Maskandi Star Khuzani Mpungose Reveals Family Rift Over Shobeni Khuzwayo And Mgqumeni Feud
Award-winning Maskandi musician Khuzani “iNdlamlenze” Mpungose has opened up about deep-seated family tensions, revealing that his relatives turned on him for signing with the controversial Zingane Zoma record label.
Speaking at a music development workshop hosted by his iNdlamlenze Development Foundation at the Coastlands Hotel in Musgrave, Khuzani addressed the historical backlash he faced.
His family fiercely opposed the move, aligning with a widespread industry rumor that the label’s founder, Shobeni Khuzwayo, was responsible for the death of rival Maskandi legend Mgqumeni “iBhova LikaDikadika” Khumalo.
Despite the intense family pressure and anger, Khuzani defended his choice, crediting Khuzwayo for his monumental success.
He urged rising musicians to remain loyal to those who gave them their first break.
As a sign of continuous gratitude, Khuzani revealed that Khuzwayo still receives a percentage of his royalties today.
The workshop, aimed at empowering local talent, was supported by major industry stakeholders including SAMRO and SAMPRA.
