An insider revealed to MDNtv that Mpumi Mpama sustained an injury while rehearsing a fight scene on set.
Following the incident, Mpama underwent a medical examination and was granted time off to recuperate.
The open letter from one of the crew members that MDNtv has seen reads, I hope this message finds you well. “I am writing to express my concerns about the level of professionalism observed on set during our recent filming on Empini.”
“Unfortunately, there was an incident where an actor (Mpumi Mpama) suffered an injury on his chest close to the heart, he was hit with a gun where the script stated to just push, in the presence of the stunt team and Director.” “Mpumi was brutally injured to the point where he was rushed to the hospital.” “This situation highlighted a significant lack of oversight and communication that could have prevented such an occurrence.” “It’s crucial that all safety protocols are strictly followed to ensure the well-being of everyone involved.”
“Additionally, I must mention the behaviour of one actress Nambitha Ben Mazwi which I found to be very unprofessional.” “Her actions not only disrupted the workflow but also affected the morale of the team.” ” 2 days of production were lost in order for Mpumi to recover.”
“Additionally, Mpumi is not the first cast member allegedly to be injured by her on set it is reported that atleast 3-4 other cast members have also complained, a source revealed.”
“On the first take of the scene, Mpumi reported to the director and the stunt team was unhappy regarding being hit with the gun, that it was painful. But on the second take he was hit even harder.”
“I believe it’s essential for us to maintain a professional environment to foster creativity and safety on set. I would appreciate that you bring attention to these matters to encourage change on our sets.” “Thank you”, reads the letter.
