The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in Bloemfontein has began hearing an appeal by President Cyril Ramaphosa, challenging a 2023 Pretoria High Court ruling that declared his recognition of Misuzulu as king invalid.
The High Court found that Ramaphosa failed to follow due process in the recognition.
The case stems from a dispute within the Zulu royal family. Prince Simakade Zulu, supported by a faction led by Prince Thokozani Zulu, contests Misuzulu’s ascension, arguing the meeting that appointed him was not properly constituted.
