Major Drug Bust Leads to Court Appearance
A 32-year-old Zimbabwean national accused of dealing in dagga worth an estimated R300,000 has been remanded in custody following a dramatic drug bust in the Giyani policing area.
Lovers Moyo appeared before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Friday after his arrest earlier this month. The court ordered that he remain in police custody while investigations continue.
The matter has been postponed to 12 June 2026 for a formal bail application and further police investigations.
Interception on Key Limpopo Route
The arrest stems from a coordinated operation conducted on 3 June 2026 by a private security company working alongside the South African Police Service (SAPS).
According to authorities, the operation led officers to intercept a Nissan Qashqai at the intersection of the R529 and R81 roads within the Giyani policing area.
What followed was a search that uncovered a significant quantity of dagga allegedly being transported inside the vehicle.
Hundreds of Thousands of Rands Worth of Dagga Recovered
Police said they discovered seven wrapped brown bags and 30 black plastic packages containing dagga during the search.
The seized drugs have an estimated street value of R300,000, making it one of the more substantial drug seizures reported in the area in recent weeks.
Investigators believe the haul was intended for distribution, although the full circumstances surrounding the alleged operation remain under investigation.
Registration Plate Irregularities Raise Further Questions
Authorities also revealed that the Nissan Qashqai was displaying registration plates that did not correspond with the vehicle’s registered details.
The discovery has added another layer to the investigation as police work to determine whether the vehicle was being used as part of a broader criminal operation.
Investigation Continues
With Moyo remaining behind bars, investigators are continuing to examine the origin of the drugs, their intended destination, and whether additional suspects may be linked to the case.
The accused is expected to return to court on 12 June 2026, where proceedings are set to continue as law enforcement authorities intensify efforts to combat drug trafficking in Limpopo.
The investigation remains ongoing.
