Heavy yraffic anticipated as ZCC pilgrims travel to Moria for Easter
Major routes leading into Limpopo are expected to experience heavy traffic volumes this Easter weekend, as thousands of members of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) and St Engenas ZCC make their way to Moria for the annual pilgrimage.
The R71 near Moria and the N1 from Gauteng are already seeing increased traffic, with authorities warning motorists to expect delays and congestion.
In preparation, the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has deployed traffic officers along key routes including the N1, N11, R101, and R71.
Their presence is aimed at managing the high volume of vehicles and ensuring road safety during one of the country’s busiest travel periods.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) estimates that more than 1.2 million vehicles will be on South Africa’s main highways over the Easter weekend, with Limpopo-bound roads among the most congested.
Motorists are urged to be patient, obey road rules, and consider using alternative routes such as the Mokopane–Lebowakgomo road or the D4040 Boeing–Maja road to avoid delays through the Polokwane CBD.
Authorities have adopted a zero-tolerance approach to traffic violations, and drivers are being reminded to avoid speeding, maintain safe following distances, and remain alert at all times.
